Gastronomy
Dalmatia’s gastronomy is a rich reflection of its coastline, islands, and hinterland—nowhere more vibrant than in Split and Trogir. Here, Mediterranean simplicity meets centuries of cultural influence, blending fresh seafood, olive oil, herbs, and seasonal vegetables into dishes that are both rustic and refined. Along the coast, you’ll find grilled fish, octopus salads, and black risotto, while inland traditions bring hearty specialties like slow-cooked peka, cured meats, and robust cheeses. Italian and Venetian influences appear in pasta, risottos, and pastries, while local wines and olive oils tie every meal to the land. In Split and Trogir, food is not just nourishment—it’s a lived experience shaped by history, sea, and sun.
Trogir and Split.
A future within history.
Split and Trogir are two of Dalmatia’s most captivating historic destinations, where centuries of heritage are preserved in remarkable architectural landscapes. In Split, the heart of the city lies within Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the 4th century, where Roman walls, medieval buildings, and lively streets blend seamlessly into everyday life.
Just a short distance away, Trogir offers a beautifully preserved old town set on a small island. Its narrow stone streets, charming squares, and landmarks like the Cathedral of St. Lawrence reflect a rich mix of Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance influences. Together, Split and Trogir provide a unique journey through history, where every corner tells a story shaped by time, culture, and the Adriatic Sea.
Diocletian’s Palace
One of the most remarkable monuments of the Roman world, built in the 4th century as the retirement residence of Emperor Diocletian. Located in the heart of Split, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is not just a historical landmark, but a living part of the city, where ancient walls enclose bustling streets, shops, and homes. Blending imperial architecture with centuries of later additions, the palace stands as a unique fusion of history and everyday life on the Adriatic coast.
The Cathedral of St. Lawrence
One of Croatia’s most remarkable historic landmarks, located in the heart of the UNESCO-listed old town of Trogir. Built between the 13th and 17th centuries on the site of an earlier church destroyed during the Venetian–Saracen conflicts, the cathedral reflects a blend of Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. Its most famous feature is the richly carved Radovan’s Portal, created in 1240, which stands as a masterpiece of medieval sculpture. The cathedral’s impressive bell tower, completed in stages over centuries, offers panoramic views of the surrounding Adriatic landscape, making it both a spiritual and cultural centerpiece of the region.
